Sinful Pleasures

Got your attention, right? This post is sort of a mishmash of topics. First, I want to invite you to stop by JQ Rose’s blog   http://www.jqrose.com/2014/12/romance-and-mystery-authors-on-writing.html because I’m paying her a visit with some writing tips.

Wednesday was busy. Mammogram in the morning. (Hope you’ve already done yours this year.) I used to do mine in August. Insurance doesn’t allow me to have the next year’s appointment until 1 day after the date I had it the previous year. As a result, I’ve morphed into December.

Then to Tom Thumb for a few essentials—liquid dish soap and half-n-half. Plus the sinful pleasures I mentioned in the title. Sour cream and real mayo. IMG_1774  IMG_1776

I found a package of Knor Spinach Dip in the cupboard. IMG_1775 Don’t know how long I’ve had it, but boy the craving hit. Figured it might just be best to make it and eat some, rather than eating a whole bunch of other stuff trying to mask that crave. Besides I had some really good Rye bread from Central Market, I picked up along with supper from Monday.

Instead of using frozen, I cooked fresh spinach in a skillet with a touch of olive oil.  IMG_1778Back in the day, this dip was a staple for parties I hosted or when I needed to take something. Loved the rye bread bowls you could get back then to serve the dip in. Just thought I was the coolest thing.  😉 However, I hated squeezing the water out of the frozen spinach. I hated it so much eventually, I stopped making the dip.

Notice, we’re not talking about the health of this particular dip, though the fresh spinach and green onions IMG_1777 should be worth something. Eating it with rye bread is probably a plus too, rather than Fritos. 😀 At any rate, I fixed it and ate it for lunch with the rye bread. I wish I’d realized how simple doing the fresh spinach was all those years ago. It was very flavorful in the dip and sooooo much easier than than using all the paper towels to squeeze out the water after the spinach thawed. My hands didn’t turn blue from the cold either.

Then it was walk Charley. FullSizeRender(2) I was tempted not to. He’d been coming and going out through the doggy door ever since I returned home. I was worried about leaving him on a Wednesday morning. Our yard people often come then, but he was fine. Yard people hadn’t come. All the leaves were all over the front entrance and circular drive. I admit they’re mostly not as pretty as when they first fell, with all the shades of red and orange. Now, they’re mostly brown. You know that smell of decay? Well, I’m noticing that around the front porch and around the garage. If the yard people don’t come soon, I might be forced to rake and bag myself. :-(

Next on deck was a nap. Hey, I’m still recovering from a really bad cold I’ve had for over a week. Caught it babysitting the granddaughters back to back. Bless their hearts. They both had colds and the next morning, I started coming down.

Again, Tom Thumb to the rescue. They have a good chicken noodle soup in their deli.

As I said, this was something of a mishmash. Do you have a sinful pleasure? How often do you allow yourself to indulge? Do you eat it at a certain time of year? How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was super. Don’t forget to stop by JQ’s blog.
